This document is an FBI FD-302, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses to record interviews. This FD-302 records a January 2026 interview with a former employee of the Department of War, in which the interviewee describes an incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in October 2023. An FBI digital rendering based upon the observer’s description accompanies this document, under the title FBI-UAP-D027.

The summary above is sourced from the released file metadata as published to war.gov. The analysis sections below are original to this tracker.

The porch faces toward the southwest, and he and hi s wi fe were sitting with their backs t owards the house . - did not remember seeing many stars in the sky that night even though the sky was clear. As - was looking up, he suddenl y noticed that This document contains neither recommendations nor conclusions ofthe FBI. something had flown over his house from behind him, coming from the northeast, and was moving away from him towards the southwest. The UAP appeared low in elevation, possibly as low as 300 feet . He esti mated it was roughly the s i ze of a large SUV based on hi s elevati on estimation. From - viewing perspective, at arm's length, the UAP appeared to be the size of the space between his thumb and pointer finger, which he approximated as 5 inches. - did not thi nk he would have noticed the UAP if it was a cloudy night. - first noticed the object's movement before actually seeing its silhouette. When - first spotted the UAP he thought it appeared almost see-through, and it had what appeared to be a haze or distortion around it. He further described it appearing as if you were looking at it through mist; and that there were ripples like you were looking at an object that is underwater. The UAP looked like a perfect triangle, however because of his viewing angle, he couldn't definitively say whether it was isosceles or equilateral in shape. - stated the UAP could have been either dark gray or silver in color which would have blended into the night sky, and with the surrounding distortion, it may have caused it to have the appearance of being translucent. - thought the triangle had rounded edges and corners, but stated the distortion around the UAP may have made the edges less sharp in appearance. The UAP traveled away from him and his wife with a point forward- facing. As it traveled away from them, along the trailing, flat, back edge, it had what appeared to be a band of silverish blue light. - hypothesized that the light could have been caused by the mode of propulsion for the UAP. The UAP moved in a straight path at a consistent elevation. It moved very quickly and covered a large distance in the short time they observed the UAP. Just before they lost sight of the UAP, the left side of the triangle banked up quickly to an almost vertical orientation, but it did not change path or elevation. The UAP was completely silent, and - did not feel any rumble, static, or any other effects from the object as it passed over him. - residence was near an airport and he frequently observed aircraft, including private planes and helicopters, flying over his house. He was very familiar with how a normal aircraft should appear and sound flying over his house. - witnessed the UAP for a total of four seconds from when he initially saw it to when he lost sight of it to the southwest, potentially over The UAP disappeared from his visual sight sooner than - expected it should have . - stated the entirety of the observation was so quick he did not have a chance to get his phone out to take a photo or video.

- was very familiar with all USAF aircraft, including the latest unmanned drones. The UAP he and his wife observed did not match anything he encountered before. The UAP was onl y a triangl e without any extra wings, fins, or any bubbl e for the engine housing. Immediately following the event, both - and hi s wi fe, who also witnessed the UAP, went i nside to separate rooms and - - wife remembered seeing a dark seem running around the edge of the UAP,

Where this file fits in the PURSUE archive

This file is one of FBI's 104 files in the Trump PURSUE disclosure. Within the FBI agency block it ranks #97 of 104 by Anomalousness Index. Across the entire 450-file archive it ranks #328 of 450.

That places it in the lower-scoring band of the archive (328 of 450 by score), typical of investigative-record style files where the report is paper-based rather than instrumented.

For the broader cluster context, this file is part of FBI Modern UAP Files - the FBI's modern UAP files: the 2022 Colorado Springs interview and the FBI-authenticated northeastern orb videos. The cluster page walks through all 47 member files with regional grouping, sensor breakdown, and standout analysis.

Anomalousness Index: 55/100

Evidentiary weight that this encounter remains unexplained after conventional analysis. Not a probability of extraterrestrial origin - that number is not honestly computable from the released files and this tracker refuses to publish it.

🤖 AI-ASSISTED SCORING · methodology

The six rubric components break down for this file as follows. Each component has a weighted contribution to the final score; the per-component explanation below describes what this file's particular value on that component means in the rubric's framework.

sensor quality (eyewitness only) 30 × 0.25 = 7.5

Reported by a witness with no instrumented record. The lowest tier in the rubric's sensor axis. Eyewitness perception in field conditions, even when the witness is highly credentialed, scores below capture by any instrumented modality. This report reached the federal record through the FBI.

witness credibility (federal agent) 90 × 0.2 = 18.0

Federal agency personnel (FBI investigators or equivalent) recording the report into the federal investigative system. Investigative credentials, but typically operating in a reactive rather than mission-active posture.

corroboration (single witness instrument) 60 × 0.2 = 12.0

Single-witness or single-instrument capture. This is the corroboration tier for the overwhelming majority of the PURSUE archive on the released metadata - the rubric records the honest limit of the underlying record rather than inferring multi-witness corroboration that the released summaries do not establish. A small number of files with an independent second witness or instrument score on the multi-witness/multi-instrument tier above this one.

kinematic anomaly (no kinematic data) 30 × 0.15 = 4.5

No kinematic measurements - speed, acceleration, vector - are published in the released file with sufficient precision to score on the kinematic axis. The rubric does not infer kinematic anomaly from narrative observer estimates. Every file in the archive carries this value, which is itself an observation about the disclosure: kinematic-grade telemetry was not part of what was released.

mundane explanation available (weak mundane candidate) 70 × 0.1 = 7.0

A conventional candidate explanation has been considered but is not dispositive. Every file in the archive scores this way - reflecting that the underlying release metadata systematically caveats strong determinations in either direction. The released summaries warn against reading them as conclusive analytical judgments, and the rubric respects that.

official disposition (unresolved no review) 60 × 0.1 = 6.0

Catalogued as unresolved with no formal review process having concluded. This is the disposition for a large share of the archive's military infrared captures - the reports are logged into the system as unresolved, but no formal review has finalized. The rubric distinguishes this from 'open after review' because the absence of review is itself a status signal.

Bottom line on the score: the Anomalousness Index of 55/100 reflects evidentiary weight that this specific file's encounter remains structurally unexplained by the rubric's six axes - it is not a claim that the underlying event involved anything non-conventional, and it is not comparable across rubrics that use different weights. For the full per-axis weights and the rubric JSON, see /methodology.
